Set against a backdrop of stunning mountains, the surroundings
of Mayrhofen are every hikers' paradise. For more than 100
years mountaineer and nature lovers from all over the world
have been flocking to Mayrhofen to enjoy some of the country's
most beautiful scenery. The region comprises the four valleys
of Zillergrund, Zemmgrund, Stilluptal, and Tuxer Tal and boasts
a total of over 200km of marked and maintained hiking trails.
Peter Haberler, who knows the area like the back of his hand,
runs an alpine school offering everything from mountaineering
instruction to pastureland hikes, and from multi-day treks
to summit climbs.
In the summer the Mayrhofen tourist board offers free guided
hikes from Monday through Friday.
